Hello! Good morning and welcome to your favorite VisitSonora blog. As you may know, in Sonora different sports events of many types are held, partly because of the natural scenery we have, and because of the sporting spirit of the Sonorans.

On November 20, the Guaymas - San Carlos 42K Marathon was held, which was planned by the organizing committee of the San Carlos Guaymas Marathon in collaboration with the World Organization for Peace and with the support of the Guaymas City Hall, the Secretary of Tourism and the Sonora State Sports Commission.

The call for the San Carlos - Guaymas Marathon announced that this year would be the Jesús Sánchez Casillas Edition in honor of the trajectory of the Sonoran athlete of the same name, who began his sports career at the age of 47 and today at the age of 65 has participated in almost three hundred marathons in the state. This particular marathon had distances of 42K, 21K, and 6.5K for male and female competitors ranging from 18 to 70+ years old, with more than $130 thousand pesos in prizes.

Of the more than 1,000 athletes who participated in the event, the participation of Oscar "El Ruedas" Garrido, originally from Queretaro, who was the first para triathlete to run a marathon in Sonora, stood out. Also noteworthy was the participation of Janeth Gastélum, originally from Guaymas, and Cándido Ayala, from Nogales, who were the absolute winners of the 42 K distance. Also, Josué Pulido Valle and Damazo Rafael Rodríguez became the champions of the 6K and 21K categories, respectively.

Undoubtedly the sporting spirit in Sonora, the adrenaline for the competitions, and support from the public is a positive phenomenon that brings out the best in the athletes, and a great advantage is that almost all competitions are open to both local and international participants.

It is expected that sporting events will increase in our state, that new editions of the already established ones will continue to be held, and those anchor events will increase for the enjoyment of participants and spectators. If you have the opportunity to attend or participate in a sporting event in Sonora do not miss it, we assure you that it will be an unforgettable experience!
