The objective of Plan Sonora is to promote the transition to clean energy and, in this process, to contribute in a decisive and committed manner to the decarbonization of the economy and the fight against climate change."

Thank you for reading us again, dear reader! Today on the VisitSonora blog we have important news for Sonorans. On Thursday, February 2, ambassadors from more than 60 countries met in the tourist destination of Puerto Peñasco along with State Governor Alfonso Durazo, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, and Sonora's Secretary of Tourism Celida López, among other personalities and journalists.

The reason for this meeting was the presentation of the Sonora Renewable Energy Plan at the largest and most significant solar plant in Latin America, located in Puerto Peñasco. The aim is to attract international investment in clean energy and establish the state as the seventh-largest solar plant in the world.

The Sonora Governor stated, "The objective of Plan Sonora is to promote the transition to clean energy and, in this process, to contribute in a decisive and committed manner to the decarbonization of the economy and the fight against climate change."

The purpose of the Sonora Plan is to take advantage of lithium, an environmentally friendly material that is fundamental in the transition to sustainable energy sources. In addition, work is being done to generate electricity from solar energy through the construction of the Puerto Peñasco Photovoltaic Plant. Natural gas liquefaction is also planned, which gives the state a privileged position due to its proximity to the United States.

All this is paving the way for the growth and development of Sonora, taking advantage of its natural potential in a respectful and balanced way for the well-being of all Sonorans and our visitors. Congratulations!
