This is a charity event organized by the Sonoran Foundation for High-Performance Sports Support.

Dear readers, I hope you are ready with your aprons and grills because we are about to announce something that has us excited in Hermosillo: Sonora will achieve the new Guinness World Record for the "Largest number of people grilling meat at the same time" this coming February 26th! This is a charity event organized by the Sonoran Foundation for High-Performance Sports Support (Fusadar, by its Spanish acronym), to which the profits will be donated to support our athletes.

To give you a little context, Guinness World Records (or simply "Guinness Records") dates back to its origins in 1955 in London, when a single book was published on the topic. It has grown into a global multimedia brand, with offices in London, New York, Beijing, Tokyo, and Dubai. Nowadays, they offer top-quality content through books, TV shows, social media, and live events, and they are the world authority on records. Guinness Records are a big deal!

Here in the northern part of the country, different records endorsed by GWR have been achieved, including the one that is being sought after with the World's Biggest Barbecue 2023. According to the official website of Códice Informativo, in 2013 the world record for "The biggest barbecue" was broken in Monterrey, with the participation of 240 grill masters, 1,700 grillers, lots of meat, and more than 44,000 diners, breaking the previous record held by Sydney, Australia.

Following this, the newspaper Excélsior reported that on November 16, 2015, the Guinness World Record for "The biggest serving of tacos in the world" was broken with 22,000 tacos in the event that took place on Hidalgo Boulevard, also here in Hermosillo. Additionally, in August 2017, Ciudad Juárez broke a record for the "Largest number of people participating in a barbecue"; the Guinness judge went through each of the grill masters, and a total of 394 people were counted grilling meat simultaneously.

The World's Biggest Barbecue 2023, which is just a few days away, puts Sonora in the spotlight for success; and we are confident that Sonoran grilled meat has everything to succeed and honor the popularity of Mexican cuisine for being one of the most delicious in the world.

The event will take place on February 26 at 10:00 a.m. on Hidalgo Blvd, and you can still sign up! The registration fee is 3,500 pesos and the official kit includes a commemorative grill, 4 kilograms of meat, tortillas, salt, charcoal, a cap, and an apron from the event. You can buy online at www.fusadar.com or go to one of the city's points of sale, such as Xticket, Discos y Novedades, La Onda Latina, Auditorios Inam, Cellular Time, and RinoCell.

Let's all participate in this charity event that will make history for our state. See you there!
